• Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australasia: Maintaining high standards of practice, training and ethics in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Freud Conference: 26 May 2018 – Melbourne

The Freud Conference is an annual Melbourne event which applies psychoanalytic thinking to the broader psychosocial context, combined with clinical material. Based on different themes each year, and linked with current affairs, eminent international and local speakers from the psychoanalytic community and related academic fields are invited to present their work. This Conference was originally established and organized for 21 years by Douglas Kirsner, Deakin University. Since 1999 representatives from three of the major clinical Australian Psychoanalytic Associations have taken over organizing the Freud Conference which attracts very wide attendances from all over Australia and internationally.

This year’s theme is Turbulent Times: Populism and the attack on knowledge elites – psychoanalytic and political science perspectives

Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
that’s how the light gets in.

Hotel Grand Chancellor

The theme of the conference will be the unexpected and spontaneous moment in psychotherapy practice and the ways in which dilemmas and mistakes may allow something new to be understood. Members are also welcome to look at the broader issues of cracks in our culture, with a view to new light.
