Biographical Notes
Carol Bolton is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist now retired.
Ann Cebon has been a member of the VAPP since she moved to Melbourne in 1975. She previously trained as a child psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic in London. She has served on various committees of the VAPP, including Training, Membership and most recently the Ethics Committee. She continues to work as a clinician, supervisor and clinical teacher in various settings.
Colleen Davison was formerly a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice in Auckland. She is a founding member of NZIPP and former Chair of Training. Colleen is now retired and an honorary member of NZIPP.
Elisabeth Hanscombe is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and writer, who has published a number of short stories and essays in magazines and journals throughout Australia and the US in the areas of autobiography, psychoanalysis, testimony, trauma and creative non-fiction, including Meanjin, Island, Tirra Lirra, Quadrant, Life Writing and Life Writing Annual: biographical and autobiographical studies, as well as in several online publications. She has recently completed her PhD at LaTrobe University on the topic ‘Theories of Autobiography: Life writing and the desire for revenge’ and is interested in the ways in which psychoanalytic Object Relations theory intersects with that of narrative and the auto/biographical.
Huan Yeo is currently an educator with the Ministry of Education, Singapore. He was a research scholar of the National University of Singapore, where his work focused on Derrida, Foucault and the poetics of autobiography. He has a continuing interest in trauma studies, continental philosophy and the inarticulacy of memory.
Dr Lyndall Kleinschmidt (MB BS, FRANZCP) is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with the Child and Youth Mental Health Service, Mater Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. She trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Brisbane and Melbourne. She has had a longstanding interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children and adolescents. This was further developed when she worked at the Tavistock Clinic, London, from 2004 until 2007.
Doris McIllwain is a senior lecturer in psychology at Macquarie University, teaching large third-year courses in Personality and Philosophy of Psychoanalysis. Her research i) developmentally profiles the affective personality dispositions contributing to narcissism, machiavellianism and psychopathy, and ii) explores how we self-reflectively colonise the body via yoga. Her enduring interest is in charismatic leader-follower relations and she has a book on that subject. She publishes in psychology and philosophy journals as well as literary journals like Meanjin and Artlink; does yoga, throws pots, loves poetry and has a small private practice.
Millie Mitchell is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist who was in private practice for thirty years both on London and in Melbourne. Since her retirement she has continued to provide supervision as well as maintaining her involvement in the life of the VAPP.
Shahid Najeeb is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who trained in Sydney, where he lives and practices. His interest in philosophy and the philosophy of religion has drawn him to the work of Bion, especially that from the latter part of Bion’s life. He is particularly interested in this work because it develops a scaffolding that can be used to examine the general ideas of philosophy, including the generation and structure of ideas, the process of thinking and how they interact in various contexts.
Craig Powell was born Wollongong NSW 194. He graduated in Medicine from Sydney University in 1965 and became a Member of the Australian & NZ College of Psychiatrists in 1971 He lived in Canada (1972–82), and trained with Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis (1977–82). He became a member of IPA in 1981 and later a Member of the Australian Psychoanalytic Society. He has published eight books of poetry, the most recent being “Music and Women’s Bodies” (Five Islands Press 2002). A ninth collection, which includes Fort Da, is currently with a publisher. Paul Schimmel is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and a member of the Australian Psychoanalytic Society. Originally from New Zealand, he is currently living and working in Sydney.
Leonardo S Rodriguez PhD is a psychoanalyst; member of the VAPP; founding member of the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis; Analyst Member of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forums of the Lacanian Field; Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology and Psychiatry, Monash University; Coordinator of the Master of Psychoanalysis program, Victoria University; author of Psychoanalysis with Children (London: Free Association Books, 1999) and numerous articles and book chapters on psychoanalytic theory and practice.
